What an achievement – $500,000 tally in fundraising for local schools through the Adams Ski & Golf charity day, supporting local Mansfield District schools in bringing students to the snow.
A smiling Mark Adams, along with son Zach, was thrilled to announce on Friday night (11 July) that a target of $500,000 had just been reached through these annual days – this year $46,000 was raised over the two days.
A Thursday night Calcutta held at the ABOM on Buller helped raise this tremendous tally, along with the entry fees to the ski and golf event held each year at this time. It includes two timed runs down Bourke Street on skis for all participants, followed by an 18-hole Ambrose event at the Mansfield Golf Club.
This year saw 88 contestants – 22 teams of four – taking part.
Mark Adams said he was very proud to announce the cumulative tally raised over 26 years of the event – 19 of which Adams have been the major sponsors.
“The day started off not so good weather-wise,” Mark Adams said.
“Up on the hill it was very cold, foggy and a technically challenging course for slalom, making it hard for the ski component of the event, but all went well and there were some good times as well as some spectacular falls,” he said.
Fastest in the combined two-run timing was Shaun Turner of Organising BSL Team.
The fastest team was Buller Central, comprising James Tehan, Rob Aivatoglou, Stuart Hogg and Mark Buckley.
Down in Mansfield, the rain eased off just half an hour before the golfing component was to start.
At the presentations following the golf round, Adams congratulated everyone for taking part and contributing to the money raised this year.
He said although the weather could have been kinder, all had gone off well and he was very appreciative of everyone’s contribution.
First place overall went to team XTM Munschaft, comprising Richie Biggins, Gavan Jackman, Dylan Forras and Peter Forras (all from Torquay), with the skiing component coming in at 0.852 and the golf score of 58.50.
Second place overall went to Farmer’s Folly, comprising Grant Farmer, Jon Farmer, Mark Bennetts and Andrew Carson, with scores of 1.050 (skiing) and 57.96 (golf).
Third place went to team White Powder, comprising Mark Foletta, Jack Gilbert, Charlie Houghton and Peter Houghton.
WF Lawyers #1 (WF Lawyers entered two teams, the second coming in at 20th place) were named fourth place winners, with the team of Dan Flynn, Ben Wyatt, Ted Flynn and Andrew Whitelaw.
In the Calcutta bidding, Peter Forras took out the major prize after backing his own team to take out the overall win – a thrilled Forras cheered loudly when announced and receiving his prize.
