Junior freeriders impress at Falls

Falls Creek’s inaugural Junior Freeride event on 9 August proved an outstanding success.

Almost 90 skiers and snowboarders competed in U10, U15 and U19 age categories in perfect bluebird conditions.

They navigated the steep and technical Cabbage Patch terrain, judged on their line choice, technique, and creativity in a format that rewarded both style and control.

“It was a fantastic day today for the first-ever Junior Freeride event,” said Danny Foster, Falls Creek’s snowsports senior manager and one of the judges.

“We had amazing conditions and athletes were throwing down across the spectrum – super cool for spectators, and an amazing day out.

“It couldn’t have gone any better.”

Aussie world junior competitor Lu Lu Laird was the standout on the day, amassing the highest score of 98 to win the U19 female ski category.
