Joinig forces to give great experiences

WHEN two organisations work together to give visitors to the Mt Buller and Mt Stirling ski fields it can only benefit those travelling to and from their snow experience.

The Hunt Club Hotel and Buller Hospitality have done just that.

Publican and manager of the Hunt Club Hotel, Guy Whitby, in talking about their collaboration, said it is a win-win for everyone.

“The pub provides the meals seven days a week for visitors while the Motor Inn across the road can provide the early morning breakfasts and lunches and affordable accommodation while still being close to the ski fields,” Guy said.

The combination works well particularly for larger groups who may not be able to get the accommodation they require – specially the likes of school groups on the mountain,” he said.

“The Motor Inn provides he affordable accommodation, providing economical solutions for guests to experience and then relax in the comfort of a good bed and good night’s sleep.

Meanwhile the pub, renowned for its long history and wonderful hospitality, accommodates both locals and the travellers every day of the week, particularly for evening meals.

Good wholesome ‘pub grub’ is served at affordable prices with a range to suit most palates.

Popular are the steaks and parmas while other dishes such as the pastas and lasagna have a slightly Italian theme to them. Both the pub’s chefs, Govinda and Ronesh, are from Nepal but are Italian trained in cooking.

Of course, there are the usual fish and chips, salads, burgers and pizzas in the menu and ‘small plates’ are a specialty with such choices as Cajun Spiced Corn Ribs, Duck spring rolls or pulled pork nachos.

And who can go past the cold beers.

“When people say they want a cold beer hey get it here,” Guy said. “We specially keep our beers extra cold.”

The pub is open 365 days a year – every night – Monday to Thursday from from 4pm onwards and Saturday and Sunday from 12noon to 2.30pm and again from 4.45pm to 8pm for meals – open during the day for drinks.

“It’s good to be able to come to the pub and have a meal – seven days a week if you want,” Guy said.

“And every second Tuesday of the month we run a Trivia night – very popular.”

Guy took over the hotel in December last year and since then has done many upgrades to the facility – particularly behind the scenes, but improving the quality of service for patrons.

“And we are determined to keep the history of the hotel and the locals who have owned it over the past 150 years,” Guy said.

“There are many stories connected to this pub and we want to retain them – we want to continue to build on the character of the high country and working on what we can do better,” he said.
