This August, a vibrant and empowering movement will once again sweep across the slopes of Falls Creek and Hotham.
The Chicks Who Shred program, a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment for women and non-binary skiers and snowboarders, is celebrating its 15th year of free sessions, bringing together skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels for days packed with progression and pure stoke.
"Imagine hitting the slopes with your ultimate hype squad," explains Jassie Salveson, program coordinator for Chicks Who Shred, describing the program for newcomers.
"A crew of Australia’s most encouraging shredders, from weekend warriors to top-tier athletes, all cheering you on."
Born in 2010 from a desire to address a noticeable gap in the snow sports scene, Chicks Who Shred was founded by Zoe Jaboor, alongside snow legends like FWT athlete Nat Segal and Olympian Anna Segal.
"They noticed a serious gap: they were often competing solo, against each other, or against men, with far fewer women on the hill," Jassie said.
"The program was created to counter the traditional path many women took into the sport, often through male partners, and to address the tendency to second-guess ourselves when stepping outside our comfort zones."
For anyone thinking about joining Chicks Who Shred this August, Jassie says "Get ready for a day packed with good vibes, great turns, and even better company".
Attendees will be grouped with an experienced 'shred mentor' who will guide them around the mountain, offering tips and boosting confidence.
The on-snow session is followed by a signature 'awards arvo' with prizes from sponsors and a raffle, with all proceeds directly funding the program.
The program's sessions consistently book out, a testament to the powerful chord it has struck with its audience.
"Because it’s about so much more than just skiing or snowboarding," Jassie said.
"It’s about being supported, seen, and celebrated.
"The vibe is welcoming, ego-free, and infectious."
Jassie also highlights the diverse age range of participants, from 12 to 75 years, all contributing to the unique atmosphere.
"There’s something really powerful about being surrounded by a crew that genuinely wants to see you thrive," she said.
Looking ahead, Chicks Who Shred has ambitious plans.
"We’ve got big dreams. More sessions, more resorts, and more ways to connect riders across the country," said Jassie.
The most exciting news, however, is the upcoming Japan camp in 2026, with details to be announced soon.
With its unwavering commitment to empowerment and community, Chicks Who Shred continues to redefine the snow experience for women and non-binary riders across Australia.
You can join in on the action at Hotham on 9/10 August and Falls Creek on 23-25 August.
