Falls Creek looking forward to a great winter season

Falls Creek will be looking forward to winter as the resort awaits the return to business as usual operations with the road from Mt Beauty set to open on April 25.

After what has been a tough summer, with a landslide cutting off the main access to Falls Creek Village via the Bogong High Plains Road in October, Falls Creek resort are excited to confirm that there will be single lane access well in time for the winter season and two lanes will be open by the peak season in late June.

This announcement follows the commitment from Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV) that the access road will be open between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek by 25 April so pre-season preparations can commence.

Since taking over the management of the landslip recovery works, Major Road Projects Victoria has carefully assessed the situation and have advised that they are now confident that it will be able to provide at least a single lane of access to through traffic by 25th April, ahead of Winter.

Falls Creek Chief Operating Officer, Stuart Smythe, is delighted to be able to confirm that the 2023 winter season will be going ahead, as per usual.

“It has been a really frustrating summer, with a huge event calendar having to be cancelled, and many businesses and stakeholders again, losing income through no fault of their own. So we are really excited that the Bogong High Plains road will be open well in time for Winter 2023," said Mr Smythe.

“Last year was a record season for visitation and we expect 2023 to match that, which is why our stakeholders continue to invest with new bars and restaurants set to debut this winter, a brand new magic carpet for tobogganing at the Windy Corner snowplay area, the return of Falls Creek Lift’s popular full day kids lessons program for both Snowclub and Junior Workshop, and we have one of the biggest winter event calendars to date, so this will be a season to remember.”

Winter 2023 will also see the completed phase 1 development of the popular Cloud 9 restaurant with an extension to the Mezzanine Level, meaning more seating throughout the restaurant. Traverse Alpine Group Proprietor Rosy Seaton is thrilled with the new development.

“Guests will notice a modern transformation and extension of the Cloud 9 kitchen, setting the scene for elevated food and beverage options for 2023.”

Falls Creek is already hiring for the busy snow season ahead (see fallscreek.com.au/employment) and the Early Bird sale for resort entry season permits is now running until the end of March. With the forecast demand Falls Creek is already seeing, the Early Bird sale won’t be extended so everyone is encouraged to get in quick.
