MT Buller opened its doors for the 2020 snow season on Wednesday, June 24, with skiers and boarders enjoying the sunshine on Bourke Street.
In line with the Victorian Government's guidelines for ski resorts, physical distancing was the name of the game, with just three people per six-seater chair and 1.5m spaced out between the queue lines.
Due to very limited snow cover skiing and snowboarding at Mt Buller is contained to Bourke Street until more snow arrives.
The resort announced on the weekend as a consequence of the capacity constraints imposed by government and in the interests of public safety, skiing and snowboarding will be restricted to season members and guests who have pre-purchased lift access products until further notice.
The sale of lift tickets has been suspended until conditions allow further terrain to open.
The ABOM Express chairlift is open for access to the upper mountain for staff, season members and guests who have pre-purchased lift access products.
However, the ski resort has made it clear that at the moment, this lift is open for foot passengers only - not for skiing, and no sightseeing tickets are being sold.
There is insufficient snow for snow play activities at Mt Buller and Mt Stirling.
On the weekend the resort reached its capacity for day visitors, only allowing pre-purchased resort entry permit holders including season pass holders and overnight guests to drive up.
The resort continues to monitor the situation daily, and everyone is looking forward to some cold nights for snowmaking, with the potential for snowfalls later this week.
Mt Buller will open more terrain, lifts and release additional tickets for sale as soon as it is safe to increase capacity.
