Opening weekend (6 and 7 June) on Mt Buller was a great success, with crowds of visitors enjoying a range of activities and entertainment.
“Bourke Street was open for skiers and snowboarders at 8.30am on Saturday and the Village Toboggan Slope and Buller Air Zone were busy throughout the weekend,” GM Mt Buller/Mt Stirling, Alan Arthur, said.
“The Village Plaza hosted face-painting, sled dogs, marshmallow toasting and DJs with great success, and the fireworks were outstanding, bringing everyone together to kick the season off.
“The official opening ceremony was held on Saturday afternoon with a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country led by Auntie Anne and Auntie Kellie.
“This was followed by a welcome from Buller Ski Lifts and an official opening of the season,” Mr Arthur said.
“If the crowds are anything to go by, Mt Buller and Mt Stirling are looking forward to a great season ahead,” the representative said.
On cue for the opening weekend was a fresh dumping of snow – just two days prior – with more than 25cm of snow falling across the whole of the mountain.
Added to this was tonnes of man-made snow, which gave Bourke Street skiers and snowboarders about 45cm of white stuff to play on.
Although the opening weekend enjoyed piles of snow, unfortunately the resorts are still waiting for the second dump – expected within the next week or two.
In the meantime, snow factory-generated snow will continue to be made throughout the Mt Buller resort.
