The forecast of fresh snowfalls has added to the excitement for the official start of the 2026 snow season this King’s Birthday long weekend.
Falls Creek and Mt Hotham Alpine resorts, together with Dinner Plain alpine village, have plenty of opening celebrations lined up.
Falls Creek will have a vibrant blend of art, culture and alpine atmosphere with a lively après scene to start the season.
Highlights include viewing new art installations, live music, dining experiences, fireworks and fire twirlers, creating a dynamic village-wide celebration.
On Saturday enjoy the Where Art Emerges guided alpine art walk with Elise Marcianti, the artist behind the all-new Falls Creek murals.
On Saturday night, The Frying Pan will be the place to be for Opening Weekend, featuring a vibrant display of fireworks and captivating fire-twirling performances, where you can soak up the electric atmosphere with great food, drinks, and an unforgettable après celebration.
Public art activation at Falls will also reach international significance, with the expected unveiling over the weekend of the Flower of the Alpine Sun (FotAS) art sculpture - the highest altitude public art sculpture in Australia - near Cloud 9 at the top of Halley’s Chairlift.
The 2026 Falls Creek Mountain Film Festival is back, with Falls Creek Hotel featuring Warren Miller’s Sno-Ciety plus films from the talented junior local filmmakers, while Attunga Lodge will feature a powerful lineup of women’s adventure films alongside open-category short films.
The Falls Creek Legends Lunch returns on Sunday, 7 June, bringing together generations of locals, visitors, pioneers and mountain lovers for great food, shared memories and plenty of laughs, while helping raise money for Falls Creek Museum to preserve the resort’s rich history.

The Hotham Hub Snow Play and Activity Centre will be open throughout the weekend for family fun.
Dinner Plain will celebrate with its annual fireworks, snow dance and a gala dinner to celebrate 40 years of Dinner Plain.
