Hotham cements freeride reputation with 2025 winter event line-up

HOTHAM'S 2025 events calendar cements the resort’s status as Australia’s freeride capital with a steady stream of high-stakes competitions and local favourites set to unfold across the snow season.

It all begins with the Welcome to Winter Weekend, a family-friendly celebration marking the official start of the season on the King's Birthday weekend.

Visitors can expect music, lawn games and a sugar rush of free donuts, s’mores and hot chocolates around the Big D firepits.

In the evening, The Bird will host a trivia night for those keen to swap their snow gear for thinking caps.

As winter hits its stride, July brings a mix of freestyle competition and high-stakes spectacle.

The Hotham Rail Jam returns on 12 July, transforming the Big D Terrain Park into a floodlit arena as skiers and snowboarders throw down tricks in front of a lively crowd.

Later in the month, from 24 July, Hotham hosts the Freeride World Tour Qualifier and Junior events, launching the 2026 global season with a showcase of big mountain riding.

August keeps the momentum going with a nod to snowboarding culture at the Hotham Banked Slalom on 8 August, inviting riders of all levels to carve through a winding course of berms and turns.

The following weekend celebrates women in snow sports with Chicks Who Shred, a free two-day coaching and community event for intermediate and advanced female skiers and snowboarders.

Mid-August brings a flurry of race activity, as the mountain welcomes the FIS SBX Juniors, followed by the Australian New Zealand Cup (ANC) SBX and SX races.

To round out the month, young snow enthusiasts will take centre stage at the Snow Australia Children’s Carnival on 29 August.

As winter gives way to spring, the mountain keeps energy high with a colourful close to the season.

Pride Weekend returns in early September, celebrating inclusivity on the slopes, while Retro Day invites skiers and boarders to don their finest vintage gear for a day of spring sunshine and throwback flair.
