OVER the weekend, crowds descended on the 47th Merrijig Rodeo to watch riders battle it out on the back of all the bulls and horses.
"The rodeo was a cracking success, our biggest yet, with 4500 through the gates," said Merrijig Rodeo Secretary Donna Howton.
"The big crowd created a great vibe for our competitors to really put on a great show."
"The weather was perfect and the feedback I've received so far has all been positive.
"As always, our community volunteer groups worked so hard to help us run a smooth operation and we'd like to give a huge shout out to the teams from Bonnie Doon Football Club, Mansfield Scouts, Mansfield Girl Guides, MADEC, Delatite Cricket Club, Merrijig CFA, Merrijig Hall Committee and Mansfield Red Cross.
"Our sponsors have also been extremely generous this year and we can't thank them enough for their ongoing support."
Last year's rodeo was plagued with mobile data difficulties that caused problems for digital payments and a myriad of other things.
Though there were still complications, this year fared much better.
"Telstra helped us out with a private wifi network on the day which ensured our EFTPOS machines worked well," said Donna.
"However, there was still a lot of congestion on the cellular network when the crowd was at its peak, which unfortunately meant our ATMs were down for a while."
