THE recent Open Garden Day held by the Mansfield Garden Club saw over 300 people visit two beautiful gardens located along the Broken River at Barwite.

Ralph Bristow's 'Barwitian Garden' was a delight of colour with his perennial garden in full bloom.

The Souter's 'Broken Downs' provided a shady haven for visitors enjoy refreshments and purchase plants propagated by Garden Club Members.

Over the years, funds raised by the Mansfield Garden Club at their Open Garden Days have been used in various community projects such as MACE, the Botanic Park, Merrijig Hall, MASS, Beolite, and the Mansfield Hospital.

This year marks 35 years since Mansfield Garden Club began assisting in the ongoing maintenance of the Bentley Cottage Garden at Buckland House.

This garden was established by the community and endorsed by Dame Elizabeth Murdoch describing the Mansfield Community as "forward looking and humanitarian" with its commitment to establishing the garden.

A recent grant from the Bendigo Bank enabled the commencement of a refurbishment of a section of this garden to provide easier access for residents.

Alpine Civil kindly donated time and materials for the earthworks required and residents are now enjoying the new space.

Funds raised from the Open Garden Day this year will assist in completing this initial upgrade in a hope that the garden can continue to provide therapeutic benefits to all who visit.
