Epic Heli-Hop Skiing Jindabyne To Falls Creek

IMAGINE waking for another ski day except this one is so very different. You’re based in Jindabyne for your snow holiday yet today arrangements are made to grace the slopes of Falls Creek in Victoria.

And no, this is not a five-hour drive, but a mere 35-minute helicopter flight with Alpine Helicopters from Jindabyne airfield.

Breakfast is quick, toast and coffee, the whole time your thoughts are in the sky and how you imagine your day will evolve.

You have dressed in full ski gear attire, your boots in hand (only for the drive) and skis readily waxed. From your Jindabyne lodge (or mountain accommodation) the short drive to the hanger is brief and as you approach the unmistaken whirring of the chopper breaks any silence.

It is high fives all-round, can you believe it, you and your mates heli-skiing in Australia. At least that’s how you will portray the adventure on your Instagram post. Perhaps your first post of the morning is mid flight with selfie of headphones and scenic mountain backdrop.

You slip into your boots as you are briefed on the procedure, skis are packed and you have lift off.

This could be you one day this winter … seeing the breathtaking sights from the sky, looking out over the amazing snow filled mountains and arriving like a rockstar.

Amongst the chaos of last year’s season that’s exactly what five mates did. They managed to squeeze in between border closures a mad helicopter joyride.

John and his friends decided to embark on an exclusive snow journey and booked a ticket on the Heli-Hop from Jindabyne to Falls Creek Resort for the day as part of their holiday.

It cost each of them *$600 return for the flights which they thought was a pretty good deal.

The group travelled over Mt Kosciuszko and past Mt Bogong landing directly on snow at Cloud 9, Falls Creek. Stepping off the chopper and clicking straight into your gear ready to slide conjures a true heli-skiing experience.

The five took advantage of their Epic Australia Pass covering Perisher, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.

After a massive day riding the group returned to the Snowy Mountains, a vastly different route to their usual drive from Perisher. Settling in for après with a beer at the Jindabyne Brewery, there were tales to divulge on this awesome experience.

“It’s epic to get in a chopper and ride the snow for the day … the adrenaline is high! You’re high on life!”
