Utah Alta

Alta is legendary among skiers for an abundance of snow. And bucket loads of it. Set high on the Little Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountains, this ski area rises to over 3200 metres and has a unique micro climate characterised by more than 13 metres of light and dry snow annually. This resort is completely devoted to the ski experience and is known around the world for outstanding powder.

Alta is one of only three resorts in the US that only allow skiing, snowboarding is not permitted. The terrain is diverse and exciting featuring long, straight fall-line runs like the legendary High Rustler, Eddies High Nowhere, Stone Crusher and the Baldy Chutes. The ski area is recognised as having some of the most challenging in-bounds terrain globally but it also caters really well for all abilities and has 40% of the terrain devoted to intermediates and beginners. Families and groups can have an awesome time on the slopes regardless of their ability.

Originally a mining town, Alta started in 1938 and was the first ski area in Utah to install a lift. Alta is a skiers-only mountain with majestic scenery, diverse terrain and a renowned snowfall average of 538". There is a spirit to Alta they call #AltaMagic. Come for the skiing. Stay for the skiing.

The accommodation is plentiful from lodges through to apartments, ski-in ski-out restaurants and dining options to suit every mood and palate and a rental shop for all the ski essentials. Alternatively, you can stay outside of the canyon in the Salt Lake City suburbs and catch the free bus. Skiing at Alta is intoxicating and utterly addictive.
