MANY accommodation and hospitality venues were well booked over the Labour Day weekend in Wangaratta, with visitors making the most of their chance to get away.

Brown Brothers guest services manager Georgia Beavis said the Milawa Winery restaurant was fully booked over Saturday, Sunday and Monday and this was the case about four weeks in advance.

She said there were 160 guests for lunch dining, the cellar door tastings were at 280, and two weddings had 260 guests.

"The cellar door was really busy and the tastings were full as well but we did have extra capacity to take extra bookings with a bit of a wait time," Ms Beavis said.

There were plenty of people in the area over the weekend with several key events on in Wangaratta which brought a lot of pre–bookings.

Ms Beavis said fuel prices wouldn't have had an impact on the people who had already planned to come to the region and had booked accommodation over the Labour Day weekend, however, it could have stopped a few from travelling for a day trip.

She said the trickiest part for people at the moment is booking a venue for lunch or dinner so they know they have somewhere to dine.

Town and Country Tavern manager Shayne Gannon said they were busier than usual with a noticeable influx of people from out of town.

"The Sunday night 'kids eat free' was again popular with 150 bookings plus walk–ins and it was very busy on Friday and Saturday as well," Ms Gannon said.

For Parkview Motor Inn it was business as usual and that means they remained fully booked as they have been often over the last month.

Motor inn managers Alan and Elise Riedel have been booked out since Tuesday last week, firstly with Tour de Cure cyclists, and then a motorcycle club over Friday to Sunday who visit a different location every year.

"There have been a lot of events recently and with this comes strong bookings which is a good thing after the last two years we've had," Mr Riedel said.

Wangaratta Caravan Park's Abbey Arendt said their nine cabins and 30 sites were fully booked over the weekend with a lot of people attending the car shows in Wangaratta and Bright.

"Many of the patrons had booked a year in advance and we have been heavily, if not fully booked for a month," Ms Arendt said.

Brown Brothers has its Easter Family Weekend from April 16–17 and it's an event they are expecting to see a return to normal patron numbers, last seen in 2019.

"We're expecting 5000 people to visit over the Easter weekend and it's just nice to have people back with that vibe of being happy to be out and about," she said.
