August is when the snow season truly settles in.
With a solid base underfoot and fresh snow still falling, both Falls Creek and Hotham are rolling out a full calendar of events to keep the good times going well beyond the lifts.
From freeride competitions and coaching clinics to art sessions, and cross country marathons, there’s something for everyone across both mountains this month.
Here are just a few of the standout events you won’t want to miss.
At Falls Creek, the action kicks off on 9 August with the Junior Freeride event.
Young skiers and snowboarders aged 10 to 18 will take on the steep and technical Cabbage Patch terrain, judged on their line choice, technique, and creativity in a format that rewards both style and control.
Falls Creek also sees the return of Chicks Who Shred on 17-18 August, offering free coaching clinics for women looking to progress in a fun and supportive setting.
Rounding out the month on 24 August, the Kangaroo Hoppet brings cross country skiers from across the globe to the high plains.
With distances of 7km, 21km and 42km, it’s a race for all levels and a favourite on the Australian snow calendar.
Over at Hotham, snowboarders will be racing the clock in the legendary Banked Slalom on 8 August.
A staple since the 1990s, this twisting natural course attracts professionals through to weekend warriors and is a spectacle not to be missed.
Off the hill, Zirky’s Paint & Sip on 12 August offers a cosy creative retreat, with guided painting sessions and wine on hand.
Then on 9 August, Chicks Who Shred hits Hotham’s slopes too, bringing together women riders for skill-building, encouragement and a great day out.
These are just a few of the highlights on offer this August.
