What not to miss this July at Hotham and Falls Creek

THERE'S no such thing as a quiet July in the mountains.

Both Hotham and Falls Creek are bracing for a busy stretch, with school holidays and a full line-up of winter events now underway.

HOTHAM

Hotham’s Ski Demo Days return 3–4 July, with some of the industry’s biggest names including Black Crows and Salomon.

They’ll be offering skiers the chance to trial the latest equipment via their Demo tents located at the top of Village Chair.

School Holiday Fireworks will light up the Big D every Wednesday of the school holidays at 6.15pm.

Pack a puffer and a thermos and claim your patch of snow for the best views.

Back in the village, the Hotham Rail Jam is taking over the all-new Big D Terrain Park on Saturday, 12 July.

Groms and seasoned park riders alike will be competing under the lights with plenty of entertainment on display.

Later in the month, attention shifts to big mountain skiing as the Freeride World Qualifier returns on Thursday, 24 July.

Australia’s top freeriders will take on Hotham’s demanding terrain, with Heavenly Valley offering prime viewing for those keen to witness the action up close.

Finally, for the sideways-inclined, the 3 Peaks Snowboard Demo Day is set for 28-29 July.

Try before you buy with plenty of well-known brands on display from Burton and Nitro, to GNU and Capita.

FALLS CREEK

Over at Falls, Ski Demo Days return from 30 June to 1 July, offering free access to the latest gear and expert advice straight from the brand reps.

Night skiing and boarding is back every Wednesday and Saturday on Wombat’s Ramble.

It’s a great excuse to keep the boots on after hours and squeeze the most out of your snow holiday.

Fireworks Fiesta is also set to sparkle every Thursday night in the Village Bowl.

The colourful spectacle is the kind of festive energy that keeps the village buzzing long after the last lifts.

Later in the month on 25 July, Wombat’s Rambler will be an event not to be missed.

This unique team of four competition is one of the longest ski and snowboard races in Australia, and the only race under lights.

Then on Sunday, 28 July, the Amelia McGuiness Memorial Time Trial offers a meaningful opportunity to support emerging winter athletes, with funds raised going toward the Amelia McGuiness Australia Snowsports Foundation.

Rounding out the month the Snowboard Demo Day returns 31 July - 1 August.

It’s a great chance to test out new boards, compare notes with other riders, and potentially find your next daily driver.

With both mountains offering a packed program throughout July, there’s no shortage of ways to get involved whether it’s on skis, on snowboards, or from the sidelines.
