Iconic Falls Creek restaurant, Cloud 9, reopens after major redevelopment

PERCHED at 1600 metres above sea level, Cloud 9 Restaurant has reopened in time for the 2025 winter season, following the completion of a multi-year redevelopment that has transformed one of Falls Creek’s most iconic on-mountain venues.

The three-stage project, led by Falls Creek Ski Lifts in partnership with the Traverse Alpine Group (TAG), has delivered a significant overhaul of the restaurant’s layout, accessibility and sustainability features.

The final phase of work, completed ahead of this season, included the addition of a mezzanine-level bar and a semi-enclosed deck space designed to provide shelter while maintaining sweeping views of Spion Kopje.

Earlier stages saw the installation of a state-of-the-art kitchen and an expanded outdoor terrace, allowing for improved flow during busy periods and more space for skiers and snowboarders to take a break between laps.

Accessibility was a key priority throughout the build.

A new stone-clad ramp and internal lift now provide step-free access to all areas of the venue, offering a more inclusive experience for guests with mobility needs.

Sustainability also played a central role in the redevelopment.

The construction team, led by local firm Duggan & Hanlon Constructions, used a combination of recycled materials, thermal insulation and energy-efficient fittings to reduce the building’s environmental footprint.

“We are utilising sustainable and recycled materials throughout the building fabric, whilst maximising insulation through thermally broken windows and design to capture all that the sun can offer,” said director Lee Duggan.

Behind the scenes, energy-efficient kitchen appliances and modern heating systems powered by heat pump technology reflect a broader push across the resort towards more climate-conscious infrastructure.

TAG proprietor Rosy Seaton said the project was shaped by a commitment to community and regional expertise.

“We take great pride in being community-minded and harnessing the local expertise from Falls Creek and the Alpine region in everything we do,” she said.

Now fully reopened, Cloud 9 is once again serving as a central meeting point for guests looking to recharge mid-mountain.

The refreshed interiors, improved service flow and added weather-protected seating are all designed to enhance the guest experience, particularly during the peak winter months.

The completion of the Cloud 9 redevelopment marks a significant investment in the resort’s long-term infrastructure and hospitality offering, bringing one of its most popular venues in line with modern expectations of comfort, access and sustainability.
