MATHIEU Laguë is one very grateful father who has allowed his daughter to ski on Mt Buller in the multiclass events and has seen her grow from the experience.

"I am the father of a 17–year–old teenage daughter with an intellectual disability who attends Ashwood School," Mathieu told Buller News recently.

"For over six consecutive years, a persistent Physical Education teacher at Ashwood School asked me to enrol our daughter in the Victorian Interschools Snowsport Championships Multiclass Event at Mt Buller.

"On the 7th year, I finally saw the light and this experience has been life changing for our daughter," he said.

"I saw our daughter growing through self–esteem, sense of community, sense of belonging and an opportunity to participate in a safe winter sport activity.

"I now feel compelled to pay–it–forward, communicate and encourage families to leverage from this unique opportunity."

The multiclass inclusion into the Victorian Interschool Snowsport Championships has seen many benefits to a good number of disabled children.

The multiclass event hosted at the Victorian Interschools since 2013 is an opportunity for capable skiers and snowboarders with an intellectual or physical impairment, from any Victorian school, to participate in a fun and inclusive environment.

2022 will also be the fourth year NSW and Victorian Interschools Multiclass participants will qualify to race at the Australian Interschools Snowsport Championships, at Perisher, on September 8.

Since the early days of 1958 the Victorian Interschools Snowsport Championships (or Interschools) have grown to become one of the premier school sporting competitions in Victoria.

Over 230 schools compete annually in the event held at Mt Buller.

In recent years there have been just under 6500 entries in the event across nine disciplines.

Today competitors have the choice of Alpine Giant Slalom, Snowboard Giant Slalom, Snowboard Cross, Ski Cross, Moguls, Cross Country Classical, Cross Country Freestyle Relay, Slopestyle Ski and Slopestyle Snowboard.
