DELATITE'S A grade side resumed its two–day match against Rovers United Bruck CC at Findlay Reserve, Wangaratta on Saturday, having already suffered a first innings loss the preceding Saturday.
Rovers batted on for another ten overs, advancing their score from 0/139 to 3/205 dec.
Lincoln Toy picked up two wickets including top–scorer Koot Pienaar who racked up his century, and Lachie Scales chimed in with a wicket also.
This declaration left Delatite 62 overs to negotiate in order to avoid an outright loss.
This endeavour started poorly with the Rovers attack sniffing blood and removing the first three wickets for just 14 after 12 overs.
At this point Scales and Adam Storer joined forces and showed a lot of defiance with a superb 66 run partnership.
Storer wielded the willow in a great counter–attacking innings of 32, ably supported by Scales who top–scored with 37.
Unfortunately, both fell in quick succession after skying catches, and the score slumped to 5 for 85 in the 31st over.
Mark O'Loughlan also fought hard to hang on, scoring 20.
He had great support from youngster Noah Whittall who held out the powerful Rovers attack for 20 deliveries.
When O'Loughlan also skied one the innings fell away, and the visitors were all out for 110 in the 46th over.
This handed Rovers an outright win, which Delatite should have been able to stave off if not for half a dozen batsmen playing shots not appropriate to the situation.
Hopefully Delatite can regroup after this defeat and show more spirit in Mitch Purcell's 200th senior game for the club against the City Colts at Lords next Saturday.
