AUSTRALIA has won two FIS World Cup medals in Europe, with mogul skier Jakara Anthony taking silver in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, and snowboard cross athlete Belle Brockhoff claiming bronze in Sierra Nevada, Spain.
For Anthony, the podium result is her fourth medal of the season and she is ranked second on the World Cup standings with two events remaining.
The 21-year-old performed exceptionally well in the cold Siberian conditions, defeating world number three Jaelene Kauf of the USA in the semi final round, to advance to the final against current Olympic Champion and world number one, Perrine Laffont of France.
Laffont took the gold scoring 82.68 to finish ahead of Anthony in the silver medal position with a score of 74.93. Rounding out the podium with the bronze medal was American Jaelin Kauf.
“It was incredible to claim another World Cup silver medal in Russia,” Anthony said after the race.
“It was the coldest weather we’ve had all season so that definitely made it challenging, but the course was in good shape and I was able to make some good progress in some areas I've been struggling with."
In Sierra Nevada, Spain, snowboard cross athlete Belle Brockhoff finished in the bronze medal position, with the 27-year-old claiming her fourth podium performance of the season.
Finishing ahead of Brockhoff on the podium was Chloe Trespeuch from France who won the gold medal, with Michela Moioli of Italy in second place.
With one event remaining, Brockhoff is currently ranked second on the World Cup standings on 3500 points, with Moioli 900 points ahead in first place with 4400 points.
“I am super happy with the result here in Spain,” Brockhoff said, after landing on the podium.
“Last time l was here three years ago I ruptured my ACL for the first time, so this is a big win for me regardless of the medal colour.
“I’ve had my best season ever and I’ve worked so hard for it these last two years.
"I’m very excited to see what I can do next year and I’m looking forward to more hard work after this season."
Both athletes will now head to the final events of their respective World Cup tours, with the mogul skiers competing in Idre Fjall, Sweden, on March 13-15, and the snowboard cross athletes in action in Veysonnaz, Switzerland, on March 15.
