THE opening weekend for Mt Buller Resort saw record numbers of visitors trying to reach the top.

Resort Management Board (ARMB) sent out a notice on Facebook on Sunday morning (June 12) at 10.30am advising additional car parking was being allocated to try to accommodate all visitors.

"As anticipated the mountain has attracted higher visitor numbers and the on–mountain car parking for day visitors is nearing capacity," the statement read.

"The resort has opened additional car parking at Mirimbah to accommodate guests.

"You may be directed to these car parks where shuttle buses will transport you to the Village Square.

"Due to high visitor numbers these additional car parks may also reach capacity, so please be prepared for possible delays."

ARMB management also stated that day visitors with pre–purchased resort entry and overnight guests were not affected as their parking had been already allocated.

"If you are yet to arrive at resort entry, we recommend making plans to visit another day and pre–purchase before you decide to visit," the statement read.

It is believed that the queue to gain gate entry was right back to Sawmill Settlement – an estimated 100+ cars in the line–up.

Visitors were advised – alternatively:

1. Stop in Mansfield for lunch while the queue settles down and/or consider taking a coach service from Mansfield to Mt Buller – https://www.mmbl.com.au/.

2. Visit our sister mountain Mt Stirling which is perfect for tobogganing and snow play under the tall trees.
