THERE was an international flavour with two events held in Mansfield over the first weekend in April.
The Mad Hatter's Tea Party took place on the Saturday raising funds for education in Timor Leste, and on the Sunday the Delatite Hotel welcomed a Fijian gospel choir in support of the Fijian community working in the district as seasonal workers.
The Friends of Venilale's April Fool's Day fundraiser in the gardens of Helen and Andrew Crockett's property was a huge success with more than 100 people attending the tea party, and $4000 raised towards scholarships.
"It was a wonderful result," said Andrew Crockett.
Guest speaker Andrew Mahar the honorary Consul to Timor Leste stressed the importance of education for a developing nation.
The MAD Orchestra and the MAD Strings were suitably attired and provided plenty of atmosphere.
On Sunday afternoon, the courtyard at the Delatite Hotel was filled with locals to hear the Fijian gospel choir consisting of seasonal workers from Mansfield and Shepparton perform.
Many of the workers have children back in Fiji and are working hard to support their families.
Donations were collected from the audience to say thank you and help cover some expenses.
