Chumpy honored by top riders

On Tuesday, 8 July the annual Shred for Chumpy took place with the steps of the Cattleman’s Rails in the Village Square full, from top to bottom.

And although the day was foggy, damp and ‘not the best of days’ all went off very well.

Prior to the ski/snowboard shred Anton Grimus and Peter Forras – both legends of the mountain spoke about Chumpy and is legacy to many rising stars.

Anton spoke beautifully about how Chumpy always put in an extra one percent every day and that commitment stacked up to the performance and mindset he had that made him a champion.

“Chumpy was a local home-grown Champion. Born and bred in Mansfield he went on to represent Australia at 3 Olympics, win multiply world cups as well as being a 2 x World Champion,” said Pete Forras.

“He demanded excellence from himself and all those around him, he made you walk taller and helped us all achieve more through his inspiration. Most of all he was a genuinely beautiful human being who cared greatly for his family, friends and the next generation who were following in his footsteps.”

It was a great lesson to share with the young Team Buller crew who were preparing for a training day in less-than-ideal weather.
