Alpine Resorts Victoria and Mount Hotham Skiing Company have launched the PEAK Snow Day initiative to promote safety on high visitation or extreme condition days, as well as new beginner itineraries for first, second and third-timers to the popular skiing and snowboarding destination.
The concept revolves around information to help guests Prepare, Explore, Act and Know, which will give guests the ability to become well-informed before a trip to the mountain, the ability to re-evaluate visits on PEAK Snow Days and ways to stay safe while on the mountain, including familiarising themselves with the Alpine Responsibility Code.
“Over the past few years, Hotham has experienced some extremely busy days with road traffic to the resort," general manager of Hotham Alpine Resorts Victoria, Natalie Valentine said.
"When paired with extreme weather conditions on the mountain, such as blizzards and high winds, driving to the resort can be challenging.
“While we have always had safety messaging on our website and in all of our communications, having a PEAK Snow Day rating is our effort to raise the profile of this Know Before You Go content when we need our guests, especially newcomers to the mountain, to reconsider their route and activities during this time."
PEAK Snow Day communications will be rolled out through traditional social media, web and email marketing platforms, as well as being shared with Melbourne-based community group forums within multicultural communities.
Electronic versions are available, including Hindi, Punjabi and Easy English versions.
“Our special village is unique in that it’s at the top of the mountain, rather than at the bottom,” said Tina Burford, vice president and general manager of Mount Hotham Skiing Company.
“This provides incredible terrain and the most amazing mountain views, but alpine environments do need to be approached with caution and we acknowledge it might take a few visits to feel comfortable knowing your way around.
"Our new itineraries will make it much simpler and safer for newcomers to visit us.”
Hotham’s field marketing manager, Emily Smith, said the Beginner Bundle lift, lesson and rental deals have proved extremely popular and are a great way for first-time visitors to learn the basics of skiing and snowboarding safely, with the help of expert instructors.
“It’s so exciting to share our love of snowsports and to be part of growing this amazing sport," she said.
"We welcome everyone to Hotham and we hope this new initiative will help to keep everyone safe.”
